Celebrating STEM Innovation: Lindbergh's Elementary Design Lab Teachers

foundation grant

Date: September 29, 2023

Today, we gather to celebrate six exceptional educators who are igniting the flames of innovation in our elementary schools. Ian Fairley at Crestwood Elementary, Beth Grebe at Long Elementary, Jessica Hopkins at Sappington, Margaret Lemback at Dressel Elementary, Lewis Naeger at Kennerly Elementary, and Rebecca Zide at Concord Elementary have embarked on a transformative journey to introduce robotics education to our young learners.

These dedicated Design Lab teachers have made a profound impact on our district by requesting robotics equipment that will pave the way for the launch of pilot robotics programs. These programs are set to benefit over 4,000 students across all elementary buildings in our district, opening doors to the captivating world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.

The objectives of this pilot robotics program are as inspiring as they are ambitious. They include:

  • Ensuring Equal Access: By introducing robotics education at the elementary level, the program aims to provide equal access to STEM resources for all students, setting the stage for a future where opportunities are abundant.

  • Enhancing 21st-Century Skills: Robotics education fosters critical 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork, empowering students with skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.

  • Igniting STEM Interest from an Early Age: By capturing young minds and nurturing their curiosity for STEM, this program seeks to ignite a lifelong passion for science and technology.

  • A Testing Ground for Excellence: The pilot program will serve as a testing ground to identify effective robotics equipment and teaching methods, ensuring that the district is equipped with the best tools to empower future generations.

This exciting initiative wouldn't have been possible without the generous support of BASF, whose contribution to the Innovation Grant Program has made this STEM grant a reality. Their commitment to education and innovation exemplifies the spirit of community engagement and corporate responsibility.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Ian, Beth, Jessica, Margaret, Lewis, and Rebecca for their outstanding efforts in advancing STEM education in our district. Their dedication to enriching the lives of our students and fostering a love for learning is truly commendable.
