On October 4th, we take a moment to reflect on the Lindbergh School District's rich history, which has shaped the educational journey of countless students over the past 75 years. Our journey begins in 1951 when a new high school was constructed on the John "Jack" Sappington estate. This facility, originally named Grandview, soon became Lindbergh High School in 1952, and its students proudly became Flyers.
The Lindbergh story was one of continuous growth and expansion. In 1952, a junior high addition was made, and in 1956, a new senior high building was erected to accommodate the ever-growing student population. Over the years, our campus evolved with numerous additions, including a math building, gymnasium, library, another cafeteria, and administrative offices.
In 1995, a state-of-the-art athletic complex was unveiled, featuring softball and baseball fields, football and soccer fields, a press box, concession stand, restrooms, and a well-lit football and soccer stadium. In 2003, we further improved our facilities with a pool replacement and enhanced safety measures.
The North Cafeteria expanded in 2016, and in 2020, we embarked on an exciting new chapter in our history. The original high school building, then 68 years old, made way for a modern addition attached to the senior high building. This addition includes classrooms, collaborative areas, a two-story library, restrooms, offices, and an impressive auditorium.
May of 2023 marked the beginning of the demolition of the old high school building, creating additional parking facilities for our junior and senior students. Today, only one wall facing Lindbergh Boulevard remains standing, a sentinel of the memories etched into its very bricks.
As we look back on this journey, we are filled with nostalgia and gratitude for the generations of students, teachers, and staff who walked these halls, leaving their mark on Lindbergh's history. Today, we cherish the memories forged within the walls of that building and honor the legacy of the Lindbergh School District. We are grateful for our past and eager to embrace the future, as it continues to evolve and shape the destinies of countless more generations to come.
